ABOUT US HEALTH PROGRAMMES RECIPES RESOURCES

From the desk of Dr Nandita Shah

I wish you a happy, healthy 2024.

The world is changing fast and we all have to keep up. Veganism is growing throughout the world. This year at COP 28 in order to curb emissions on the plate, organizers requested that two-thirds of food served be vegetarian or vegan. This means that they have finally accepted that ‘animal agriculture’ is the leading cause of global warming even if they are hesitant to make adequate changes.

Meanwhile diseases have been rampant with the Gujarat State minister mentioning that in the last 6 months 80% of heart attack deaths in Gujarat are within 11-25 age group! So whether we want to save ourselves from climate change or even just survive, we need to rethink our current lifestyles.

This makes me doubly proud of our 50 strong team. All our facilitators and consultants have seen results themselves, and all of them are passionate about sharing this information with the world. This year we have also had 2 training programs – in January for facilitators and in Dec for consultants and we have had participants from India and abroad who are following this lifestyle and are passionate about sharing it with others. Our 2 21-Day Health Retreats also saw participants from the world over!

We have been gently moving back from the online pandemic mode to more live programs. In end October I was at the YVCare vegan festival in Mumbai where we saw many new vegan entrepreneurs and cafés. And our Farmers Market in Mumbai is up and running again with more organic and vegan products than ever!

Plan ahead for the best health holiday you can ever have this year with our 21-Day Health Retreat in June 2024. This is our most exclusive program wherein you will be under the expert guidance of Dr Nandita Shah and her team and will truly learn how to take health into your hands. Not only will your body heal and thank you but great food, amazing activities and a lifetime of memories are guaranteed!

Lime Coriander Dressing

A dressing literally spruces up a salad. Try this easy-peasy dressing and sprinkle over any salad vegetables and leaves of your choice. Add some nuts or seeds for some crunch if you wish

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup fresh lemon juice
  • ½ bunch fresh coriander leaves, coarsely chopped
  • ¼ cup coarsely chopped onion
  • 1 small green chilli or jalapeño pepper
  • ½ cup tahini (sesame butter)
  • ½ cup water
  • ⅓ cup chopped pitted dates
  • 1 tsp unrefined salt

Method

Except for the coriander leaves, blend all the ingredients together in a blender, until creamy. Add coriander leaves and blend again, but you should still be able to see the coriander leaves as slightly large pieces. Transfer to a bowl and use when required.

The year 2023

Every time we go on a long-distance drive, we tend to frequently check if we are on the right path. Life is the biggest and the best long-distance journey that we ever take, so we need to pause often to reflect and assess that we are on the right path.

Our mission at SHARAN is to build a culture of health. It saddens us to see so many people fall ill when it is so easy to stay healthy. What also motivates us to keep going is the plight of millions of innocent animals and the degenerating condition of our environment. Truly, just by changing what we eat, we can build health and compassion and also protect our planet. It really cannot get easier than that.

So, our action plan is to bring awareness and provide support. This is how we did it in 2023.

1. Over 270 events!

Thanks to our super enthusiastic team, we were able to conduct online events, on-ground sessions, corporate programs, retreats and workshops – free and paid. We truly believe “Alone we can do so little. Together so much more.”

2. Powerful & Successful Health Challenges

We started the year with The Sugar-Free Resolution followed by the 7-Day Fruit Challenge and even the Dairy-Free and Oil-Free Challenges. These programs helped people stay on track and embrace health in a fun way as in group sessions one gets a lot of motivation.

3. Unique Cooking Classes

From Ghar ka Khana to Curries from the East, the Mezze Platter, the Casserole Class, Bati Class, Buddha Bowl and more were wonderfully curated by our creative presenters.

4. Millets

2023 was declared as the International Year of Millets and with them being a much healthier option not only for our health but for the environment too; we had various interesting programs highlighting their benefits. From cooking classes, to longer programs to talks & more, we got many to join in the millet express.

5. Kickstart Your Thyroid Reversal

We had two nutritionists and an expert chef conduct this unique program, which helped those having hypothyroid issues. Kommal Shah and Vandana Tiwari from our team had successfully reversed their hypothyroid and hand held the participants along with nutritionist Madhura Vayal.

6. Yoga for Health

Our brilliant yoga experts conducted special programs for how diet and yoga can help in uterine prolapse, diastasis recti, umbilical hernia, pregnancy and more.

7. Pop-Ups & Potlucks

We curated healthy pop ups and loads of potlucks where people got together and enjoyed plant based food, made new friends, learnt new ideas, recipes and basically had a good time. This was much appreciated by all those who attended.

8. Environment Related Programs

We held talks on healing the planet in many different forums getting people to connect with the fact that what we eat affects the environment big time. We also conducted a health & environment Bingo.

9. Live Book Reading Sessions

Mental health plays a key role and we started live book reading sessions in January in Mumbai which are still continuing and helping each participant in a variety of ways.

10. Ho’oponopono

We introduced this Hawaiian healing technique and the program has been a hit! Participants have not only benefited health wise but also have seen an improvement in their relationships, financial conditions and more!

11. Our Juhu Organic Farmers Markets Returns!

We ended the year with a bang as our popular Juhu Organic Farmers market returns every Sunday at Dilkhush School ground in Juhu, Mumbai! This will continue now in 2024 and beyond:)
